The 603FCBN, Gauntlet Premium set is a simple and easy to use sharpening kit that allows even novice users to get razor sharp cutting edges in just minutes without the use of water, oil, complicated clamps or special hardware. A product of the American company Spyderco, manufacturer of the best sharpening systems.
Extra long 228 mm bars (not found in sharpening kits from other manufacturers), allow sharpening of most knives including kitchen knives. Sharpener suitable for left and right handed users.
Multi-functional base - injection moulded, made of impact resistant ABS plastic. Specially designed holes hold the abrasive rods at a perfect 40° angle (20 degrees per side) to ensure sharp, durable edges. Star-shaped holes in the base allow the rods to be rotated to use clean abrasive surfaces that have not yet been used or to set the edges of the rods to sharpen serrated edges. An integrated guard protects the hand from injury during sharpening.
Ceramic sharpening rods - white, oval aluminium oxide rods of FINE gradation. Designed for sharpening and levelling cutting edges.
CBN sharpening bars - set of CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) sharpening bars. Designed for heavily worn edges, made of a material called borazon, a polymorphic variety of boron nitride. It is an exceptionally hard synthetic super-abrasive material rated at 90-95% of diamond hardness but with greater chemical and heat resistance, making it suitable for use on iron-based alloys and steels where diamond cannot be used. Due to its unique properties its price is on average 30% higher than that of diamond.
Method of use:
Thanks to the unique shapes of the rods and the two types of gradation, with the Gauntlet Premium set you will quickly sharpen any edge. To sharpen your knife, guide the edge of the blade along the rod perpendicularly from top to bottom. When set at a predetermined angle, the rods allow you to sharpen both sides alternately. The edges of the rods are used to sharpen serrated blades. For coarse sharpening use CBN rods - coated (regular grains of boron nitride bound with ceramic material) pick up steel much better than diamond rods. For finishing sharpening, use ceramic with FINE grit. Finally, clean the rods and knife edge carefully.
Set contains:
- multifunctional base
- two ceramic honing rods, FINE (Honing Edge)
