The elite Imperial Praetorian Guard was a unit into which the best of the Roman legionaries were selected to serve as the Emperor's personal protection. Praetorian T Tanto Black PVD Titanium w/Teal Pinstriping, Teal HW/Clip, Black PVD from MKT is just such an elite knife. Its amazing design is limited only by the strength of the materials it is made from. With a 4.8 mm thick blade, solid 3.2 mm thick titanium grips and 6.35 mm thick pivots and screws, it stands out from other knives. The hollow grind on the blade has been crafted by hand - a rarity in the knife industry, achieved by only a select few manufacturers capable of executing such precision.
Greg Medford's idea was to create the most reliable knives imaginable while retaining their beauty and adding the "soul" of hand finishing.
CPM 3V - wear-resistant tool steel with high hardness. Manufactured by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method. The CPM process creates a highly homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and ductility compared to steels produced by conventional methods. Designed to provide maximum fracture and chipping resistance in high wear resistance steels. It offers impact resistance greater than A2, D2, Cru-Wear or CPM M4, approaching the levels provided by S7 and other impact-resistant grades. CPM 3V is hardened to 61-63 HRC for applications where chronic fracture and chipping is found in other tool steels, but where the abrasive properties of high-alloy steel are required.
Blade – the robust Praetorian T with a T/E (Tanto Edge) profile, has been black PVD-coated, concave grinds give excellent cutting properties combined with high strength. The striking embossing increases durability, using them to open the knife. For increased insensitivity to contamination, phosphor bronze washer was used, making the pivot axis more resistant to field work. A powerful titanium frame lock bar secures the knife from folding, unfolded and secured the knife is as solid as an armored cash register.
The titanium handle has been personalized (custom) by anodizing the edges of the handle with a different color than the scales - teal. All Praetorian variants are equipped with a D2 hardened steel backspacer, coated with NP3 which serves as glass breaker. MKT has thoroughly tested these backspacers and found that they are completely reliable and 100% functional. No tricks. There will be no other variants of this backspacer, in a different material or shape, as it is meant to save lives in an emergency, not for decoration. Wear hand and arm protection when testing, as excessive impact force will ALWAYS cause cuts! The whole thing is completed with a solid clip, also made of titanium, of course.
The knife is supplied in a waterproof and dust-resistant - IP67 rated and impact-resistant (MIL-STD-810F) technical case from the American S3 Case Company. Made of high-impact S433 resin - one of the most durable materials available in the world.
It comes - cardboard box, S3 Case, Dog Tag and signed "Certificate of Creation and Authenticity".
