Michele “Molletta” Pensato, an Italian knife designer with a passion for archaeology, has turned his love of adventure into the high-end craft of knife design. His career began with an archaeological dig, where he realized the need for a durable knife. Known for his innovative approach to materials and experiments with heat treatment, Pensato has won numerous awards. His designs for lionSTEEL, such as the popular T5 and the award-winning SR11, are distinguished by their practicality and typically Italian rounded shapes. Knife design, although just a hobby for him, has resulted in significant contributions to the lionSTEEL collection.
Sleipner - a versatile high-alloy chrome-molybdenum-vanadium tool steel with high wear and chipping resistance with a balanced alloy composition: chromium content of 7.8% (Cr), 0.9% carbon (C), molybdenum 2.5% (Mo) and vanadium 0.5% (V). It achieves a high hardness of 60-62 HRC. Manufactured at Uddeholm steel mill .
Blade - massive, Drop Point type with clearly marked belly provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Plain blade was derived with a Flat Grind and coated with a black coating. Located on the underside of the blade, the IKBS-assisted protrusion / flipper makes it easy to open the blade. In the open position, it serves as a lower guard one-sided hilt to protect the hand from slipping off the handle.
IKBS - (Ball bearing system) enables fast, smooth opening of the blade.
Solid Frame-Lock - a reinforced, monolithic Ergal aluminum blade lock . One of the grips acts as the locking mechanism and is reinforced with a hardened steel inlay.
RotoLock - a lock with a patented additional locking mechanism in the shape of a titanium shield by Gianni Pauletta. When the knife is open, turning the RotoLock about 1/8 turn clockwise wedges the locking mechanism, preventing unintentional release of the blade lock, provides stability of the blade identical to knives with a fixed blade.
Handle - orange in color . Made with Solid® Knife technology , obtained from a single piece of Ergal aluminum, machined in 4D. As a result, a monolithic skeleton (body) of the highest strength was obtained, which is a solid structural element. The grip grips were CNC machined, obtaining a non-slip texture. The two-position left/right compact clip allows you to carry the knife in tip-up position (tip up). Bolted to the aluminum frame with a tungsten carbide glass striking screw / nailer . In the back of the grips lanyard hole , a hole for a cord.
