Microtech Scarab II S/E Gen III OTF Knife Weathered Crimson Aluminum, Crimson M390MK by Tony Marfione (1278-1WCN)
- Scarab II S/E Gen III Weathered Crimson Aluminum, Crimson sets a new standard for OTF technology. The double blade deployment mechanism not only simplifies opening, but the design also drives the blade with enough force to open it underwater.
Scarab II S/E Gen III Weathered Crimson Aluminum, Crimson is the pinnacle of automatic tactical knife excellence, drawing inspiration from the original Microtech Ultratech design. Built to withstand the toughest conditions, the new Scarab II is the best choice for intensive use. Retaining the design features of its predecessor, it sets a new standard for OTF (Out The Front) technology.
Externally, it resembles the previous generation, but it is the internal design that makes the new Scarab II in a class of its own. The revolutionary double blade deployment mechanism not only ensures smoother operation, making it easier to open, but the double spring design propels the blade forward with enough force to open the knife even under water. Precisely manufactured to the highest standards, the Scarab II guarantees unparalleled reliability and safety of use.
M390MK - thanks to the cooperation of Microtech and Böhler engineers, an exclusive version of M390 steel has been created, made only for Microtech. The carbon content has been increased and subjected to more precise control, improving the properties of M390 steel to ensure better edge retention, corrosion resistance and polishing. Martensitic high-performance chromium steel produced by powder metallurgy. Due to the alloy concept, it is characterized by an extremely high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to the high wear resistance, the shape of the edge is properly maintained, so that the blade remains sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). Another advantage is the resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 19.0% (Cr) with an admixture of 1.95% carbon (C), 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to 59-61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter's CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Blade - machine-ground, Drop Point S/E (Single Edge) type, single-edged with a line of fuller grooves on both sides of the blade. Protective crimson coating, same color as the handle. The blade has a high flat grind, which ensures excellent cutting properties. This gives the knife excellent piercing properties while maintaining high durability. The strong blade extension / retraction mechanism with a knurled thumb slide requires a certain amount of force to overcome the spring resistance for safety reasons. In this model, the knurling has been improved to a version with a distinctive “X” in the center. The opening method ensures trouble-free opening for both right- and left-handed people.
Handle - precision-made in 3D technology on CNC milling machines, made of 6061-T6 aluminum with a scarlet Mil-Spec coating. The Weathered finish gives a shading effect over the entire surface of the handle. The perfectly fitting inlays made of special 3M Traction Tape material with a sandpaper texture ensure that the knife does not slip in the hand during use. The back and bottom of the handle have jimping for a more secure grip. The slim profile and milled two-position (right/left) solid deep carry clip allow the knife to be carried discreetly in a pocket in the tip-down position (with the tip of the blade facing down). The clip features the line's characteristic scarab pictogram. The handle ends in a window breaker, a solid steel triangle with a pressed-in tungsten carbide ball. It also has a hole for attaching a decorative cord.
