Microtech Ultratech D/E Gen III ZBP OTF Knife Natural Clear Aluminum, Apocalyptic M390MK by Tony Marfione (1122-10APNC)
- Ultratech D/E Gen III ZBP Natural Clear Aluminium, Apocalyptic offers a range of enhancements: an improved glass breaker, along with key innovations such as the Crud Kutter™, Dual-Fuel Drive Train™, and Zero Blade Play™.
Ultratech D/E Gen III ZBP Natural Clear Aluminum, Apocalyptic is the new version of the Ultratech series - the first OTF knife from Microtech without any blade play after opening! The “blade play free” automatic knife stands out with a number of improvements, such as Crud Kutter™, Dual-Fuel Drive Train™, Zero Blade Play™. The handle has also been redesigned and features solutions known from other models. Working in D/A (Double Action) mode, it allows the blade to be quickly extended and retracted with a flick of the thumb. The design by Tony Marfione, owner of Microtech Knives, combines modern design with the highest quality of workmanship
Zero Blade Play™ - a redesigned blade locking system that eliminates the problem of play on the blade after opening, a common issue with other OTF knives.
Dual-Fuel Drive Train™ - an updated knife opening/closing system that works more smoothly and requires less force to open/close the knife.
Crud Kutter™ - a series of diagonal cuts under the opening slider, prevents the accumulation of dirt that could interfere with the opening mechanism.
Ultratech OTF Line - the flagship Microtech model from the OTF line, which has set the standard for all Out The Front knives. Proprietary Ultratech trigger spring design that remains in a “resting” position at all times except when in use. This means that the spring does not wear out, reducing wear and tear on the internal release mechanisms, ensuring that the knife will always work effectively. Its light weight, the ability to open and close with one hand, the slim shape of the handle and the sharp blade make this a one-of-a-kind knife, available only from Microtech.
M390MK - thanks to the cooperation of Microtech and Böhler engineers, an exclusive version of M390 steel has been created, made only for Microtech. The carbon content has been increased and subjected to more thorough control, improving the properties of M390 steel to ensure better edge retention, corrosion resistance and polishing. A martensitic high-performance chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to the alloy concept, it is characterized by extremely high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Due to its high wear resistance, it keeps its edge well, which means that the blade stays sharp for a very long time (minimal maintenance required). Another advantage is that it is resistant to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 19.0% (Cr) with an admixture of 1.95% carbon (C), vanadium 4.0% (V), hardened to 59-61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter's CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Blade - machine-ground Dagger D/E (Double Edge), sharpened on both sides. Finished with an impressive Apocalyptic patina. The blade is finished with a high flat grind, which ensures excellent cutting properties. This gives the knife excellent piercing properties while maintaining high strength. The powerful Dual-Fuel Drive Train™ blade extension/retraction mechanism, operated by a knurled Thumb Slide, a stepped thumb slider, requires a certain amount of force to overcome the spring resistance for safety. The opening method ensures trouble-free opening for both right- and left-handed users. The Crud Kutter™ system cuts under the slider to prevent dirt build-up.
Handle - made with precision in 3D technology on CNC milling machines, from brushed and polished 6061-T6 aluminum. The Microtech logo, a bird of prey's claw, is deeply engraved on the blade. The texture of the handle's surface prevents the knife from slipping in the hand during use. There are jimping on the spine and bottom of the handle for a more secure grip. Traditional Torx screws are used to tighten the grips, which makes servicing the knife very easy. The slim profile and milled two-position (right/left) solid titanium deep carry clip allow the knife to be carried discreetly in the pocket in a tip-down position. Equipped with a smooth rollerball, thanks to which the knife easily slides into the pocket without damaging the edges. The handle is finished with a new version of the glass breaker, a steel pyramid with a pressed-in tungsten carbide ball. There is a hole at the back of the handle for a decorative cord.
