CPM Cru-Wear - high-carbon premium air-hardening tool steel with a hardness of 60-65 HRC. Produced by US Crucible Industries according to the CPM process (Crucible Particle Metallurgy) as an improvement on the manufacturer's conventional Cru-Wear and D2 steels. Manufactured according to the CPM process, it is more resistant to chipping and cracking than most conventionally manufactured tool steels. It is not stainless steel. For steel to qualify as stainless, it must contain at least 12% chromium. CruWear contains 7.5% chromium but still offers a good level of corrosion resistance. It contains a high 1.1% carbon, 7.5% chromium, 1.6% molybdenum, 2.48% vanadium and 1.15% tungsten balance for key properties: hardness, toughness, edge retention, machinability, wear resistance and ease of sharpening. It is not easy to find steel that performs so well in so many categories.
Compression-Lock - (similar to Liner-Lock) a blade locking mechanism patented by Spyderco (made in the USA). Extremely durable, it provides extreme strength and ease of use. Located on the back of the handle, it prevents the knife from being closed accidentally. When releasing the lock, the fingers are not in the way of the folding blade.
Blade - with a modified Clip Point profile, finished with an elegant satin finish. Plain blade with Full Flat Grind, which increases cutting performance and reduces the weight of the knife. Enlarged 14 mm round SpyderHole (Spyderco patent) for opening the knife, even when wearing gloves. The notched thumb rest, the ramp (spine jimping) and (finger choil jimping), the notched undercut for the index finger between the handle and the cutting edge make it easier to work with the knife.
Handle - made of Micarta composite, a virtually indestructible material that is resistant to weather, chemicals and mechanical damage. The non-slip texture makes the handle easier to hold, even with wet hands. The grips are attached to the steel liners with Torx screws. The folder is equipped with a metal clip with 4-way clip positions. There is an enlarged hole (lanyard hole) in the back of the handle for pulling a lanyard or safety rope.
